Did you cd to the correct directory and run the command from within the directory that wasservicehelper.bat is situated? Try changing directory to C:\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\bin and running it from there. There are other ways of creating the service using IBM tools and Windoze ones. We know that WAS is fine and it was the awful service to blame so that's hard part done. You could do a bit of reading around to achieve the creation of the service as I will be off line for a couple of days now.
